The underrated: Teluk Intan Leaning Tower

The Pisa Leaning Tower in Italy is famous all around the world. In Malaysia, specifically in Perak, we have our own leaning tower: the Teluk Intan Leaning Tower. We have read about this Leaning Tower since we were little but believe it or not, we have not once visited this place – until we entered into our 30s.

The Teluk Intan Leaning Tower is situated in the middle of Teluk Intan town, on a square. It is easy to get to but parking is limited since it is situated beside the main road. The Tower is unique firstly because of its pagoda-like design. You can see the distinctive roof style and the traditional blocks all over the tower. Apart from that, do you know that this Tower was never intended to be a leaning tower?

Finally made it to one of the three places in Perak to visit
We finally made it!

It used to house water tanks which supplied water to the Teluk Intan town. Being built near the river banks, it settled over time causing the Tower to tilt. You might want to visit this Tower soon, since the water level is rising and one day, this Tower might be gone forever! The Teluk Intan Leaning Tower is definitely one of the three places in Perak that you should go to.

No. 2 in three places in Perak that you should go: Atuk Kopi!

This is the best-kept secret out of the three places in Perak that you should go to. We accidentally knew about this place when we had a work in Bidor and had to spend overnight. We stayed at the See Foo Hotel and Atuk Kopi is on the ground floor of the hotel.

What’s interesting about Atuk Kopi is the coffee blend they used and how ‘strong’ the coffee is. While most local coffee houses brew the coffee traditional way, here they used the machines commonly found in Western-style coffee shops. Nevertheless, the coffee tasted just amazing and distinctive as compared to the ones in other coffee shops. Our personal favourite: Kopi O! Strong and aromatic, we could come to Atuk Kopi just for its kopi O.

Atuk Kopi is a must!

If you are driving along the North-South Expressway, just make a quick stop at Atuk Kopi by exiting at Bidor. Definitely one of the three places in Perak that you SHOULD go.

The overrated: Nasi Bamboo Sungai Klah

This place is famous among riders as well as those who usually ply the North-South Expressway. Nasi Bamboo Sungai Klah, as its name suggests is rice cooked in bamboo. There are several options available such as the normal rice, or rice stuffed with serunding.

Overrated but still nice
Rice cooked in bamboo at Nasi Bamboo Sungai Klah

Since this place is viral on social medias, we visited this place to see what the hype is all about. After we visited the place, we could only say that the place is quite overrated. The food is good, yes, and there are many dishes available. But apart from the rice cooked in bamboo, we found that most of the dishes here are as tasty as what can be found elsewhere.

The ‘serunding‘ version.

Still, if you want to try something unique, this place can be included in your three places in Perak that you should go to list.
